I loved working on these professional headshots for the brilliant Elanor, who is a professor of philosophy, while she was visiting a class at Brown University in Providence, RI. We shot two rolls of film (Kodak Portra 400 and Kodak Tri-X 400) on my Mamiya RZ67 and took a few digital snaps as well in the most beautiful space of my Alma Mater, the reading room of the John Hay Library. It was such a funny, lovely and new experience to do a whole photoshoot in total silence (it was exam week and these shots were carefully crafted to avoid the stressed out students studying all around us). I had to use a lot of hand signals to direct Elanor, and move slowly and deliberately so that I didn’t make noise with my gear (other than the unavoidable thump of my Mamiya’s giant mirror) and this, coupled with the fact that I only get 10 shots per roll, slowed me down and created such a thoughtful, intimate space in which to work with E.
I’m always excited to hear from entrepreneurs, creatives and scholars in need of professional headshots. If you’d like to inquire about doing a portrait session with me, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
