Basement Pilgrims

A shabby old mill in Littleton, NH looks like it might tip into the Ammonoosuc River any day, but the matrix of stoic timber and rock beneath it explains the building’s persistence.  I stared up at the scarred floor beams and listened to the mountain waters moving a few feet below.  A carpet of exploratory ice trapped relics left behind by basement pilgrims who came before me.

  1. I love this post. It reminds me of our conversation about our fear of photographing things that might not seem beautiful… and still producing beautiful work. There is so much character in this set of pictures!
