Movie Night

My mom and I needed to have a girls movie night yesterday, so I suggested Caramel, a Lebanese film made in 2008 which I had seen a long time ago, and I think it was even better the second time!  Our eyes and ears were given a warm, rich dose of Lebanon and the intimate world of a group of women there, and so for a few hours, we were transported.  In following the romantic lives of 5 women who work at a beauty parlor together, the film alludes to the pressures that Lebanese women face in a culture that sits on a major intersection of religion, language and ideas, and that has to continually define itself and its traditions in the face of change.
